In the small shed near the main pack house that served as his workshop, River was working on assembling a big wooden dining table. Emilio, who was helping him move the pieces, had to pause. “Crap. This sucker is heavy.”

River shrugged. “So it is. But the client asked for it, and the client is going to pay for it. Besides, it’s almost done.” He gave the table a satisfied look. “Can you give me the—” He stopped when he heard the sound of an engine from the outside. Emilio heard it, too, since he went to the open door of the shed and looked outside. The rumble grew louder, then completely disappeared as the engine was cut off.

“Who’s that?” River, preoccupied with table and outlining what was needed to finish it, didn’t move.

“Um, I think it’s for you.”

The tone of Emilio’s voice had River glancing up.

“Oh,” he said, recognizing the car.

“Sheriff’s car. And the sheriff.” Emilio frowned. “Did you know he was coming?”

River carefully shelved his tool and went over to nearby bench to pick up a bottle of water. “No.”

“I take it you won’t be needing me anymore today?”

Staring hungrily at his lover, River almost missed Emilio’s question. The other man had a sly expression on his face.

“I didn’t say that. Besides, he is in uniform. That means this could be an official visit.”

“Yeah? You never did it when he was in his uniform?”

“No.”

As he watched Raphael approach them, gravel crunching under his boots, River idly wondered why not. His lover was hot.

Raphael had an evil smile on his lips when he greeted River.

“Mr. Summers,” he said.

“Sheriff,” River answered in a similar manner, his lips quirking. Emilio snorted. Raphael ignored him, focusing on River. His let his eyes rove down and back up River’s sweaty, muscular body. His nostrils flared.

“There is some business I need to discuss with you.”

“Is that so?” River ran a hand over his chest, stopping ever so slightly at his nipples. He was wearing only a sleeveless T-shirt which was damp and plastered against him.

Raphael nodded.

“Very well, Sheriff.” River paused to return Raphael’s heated stare, “Please go in my office. I will be right there. Emilio,” he said to grinning wolf.

“Boss?”

“Go and find Riker and Layela. Tell them to come here.”

Emilio sobered instantly. “Sure, boss.”

Riker was former pack Alpha and Layela, one of his Betas. Since River still hadn’t officially chosen his Betas, those two served as his closest advisers.

River dropped his tools and followed Raphael into the house.

“Inside,” River said when they came to his office. Raphael obeyed, leaning on the wall opposite the battered desk that occupied almost half of the room. Their gazes locked for a moment, desire swirling between them. The smell of lust filled the air. Grabbing a handful of Raphael’s shirt, River yanked him closer for a kiss. Raphael answered with matching hunger. His body melded against River’s. He ground his hips against Raphael, making them both gasp.

“You are so hot,” he said, reaching down to pat Raphael’s cock through his uniform pants.
